Dick DeVos’s Track Record of Philanthropy

Dick Devos has made a name for himself as a businessman and entrepreneur over the years. While his accomplishment are impressive it is philanthropy that seems to earn him the most attention. Just in the year 2015 he and his wife gave out nearly 12 million dollars in charitable contributions, according to their Family Foundation website. That number is more than double the 5.3 million dollars in campaign donations Dick DeVos has contributed over the last five years, according to government reports.

 

Giving is something that is a family wide practice for the DeVos. Dick DeVos’s family gave away and astonishing $104 million in donations in 2015. This amount landed the family in 24th place on Forbes’ top givers list. Perhaps even more impressive the extended family given for the DeVos family is reportedly well over a billion dollars. Giving for Dick DeVos often is shown as a priority in education. This category takes up more than one forth of the total family giving. Dick firmly believes the current educational system has not been fulfilling. His goal is for all children, regardless of location to be able to receive an excellent education.

 

Dick DeVos walks the walk when it comes to educational giving. In 2013 alone he gave to a variety of sponsors including Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Detroit Charter School Company New Urban Learning, Northwood University in Midland and Rehoboth Christian School in New Mexico. The donation amounts to these schools ranged from as low as $25,000 to as high as $315,000.

 

The son of Amway co-founder Richard DeVos, Dick DeVos has worked hard to create a great career. DeVos was born in Michigan and is a graduate of Northwood University. Just a few years later he added to his education by studying at both Harvard Business School and the Wharton. After college he worked in several well respected roles including working as part owner with the NBA’s Orlando Magic.

 

DeVos has spent much of his career working together with his wife Betsy DeVos. The two have worked tirelessly to improve America’s educational system, making it good for all students regardless of their home. He continues to be passionate about giving back and does so in a major way. His presence is sure to be felt for many years to come.
